WCW SATURDAY NIGHT

Karl Horstmann was brought in by Turner Productions to direct this open because of its size, scope, and creative challenges. Inspired by the opening sequence of the Wesley Snipes film, Blade, this piece was shot in an old downtown Atlanta warehouse and features over a hundred dancers.
Horstmann employed a greenish look and a claustrophobic atmosphere to achieve an urban rave party feel. It begins with techno-dance music blasting through the air as a warehouse door slides open to reveal a group of young people racing up the stairs to get to the party. Inside, among walls of monitors filled with scenes from the WCW and a DJ spinning tunes that must be danced to, they join hundreds of other young people caught up in the excitement. This is an event, the party of the year, a high-energy celebration ready to explode-what better way to introduce the WCW franchise to Saturday night.
The edgy, exciting "Event" feel was created as part of the network's marketing plan to reach a younger demographic.
