WHEN
HORSTMANN MET REINER . . .
"After
thorough testing, we determined the best approach would
be to make the hanging panels from loosely woven fabric
and simultaneously use standard projection on the front
while inverting the exact same image onto the rear fabric
panel. The two images converged onto the center of the
screen to produce quite a unique effect."
Instrumental in helping Triple
Horse achieve such a successful shoot was an incredible
team headed by producer, John Hembree; writer-producer
from Program and Production at Turner Classic Movies,
Ruth Ann Millman; set designer, Rick Morganelli; with
Turner Classic Movies being represented by Tom Brown,
Vice President of Program and Production and Shannon Davis-Forsyth,
Vice President of On Air and Network Creative.
"As a director," Horstmann
said, "it was a real privilege to work with such
a great filmmaker-one I believe is making essential films
for our time. He has such an impressive body of work already.
And he has such diversity. Think about the difference
between films like This is Spinal Tap and Stand by Me.
Thanks to his skill and flexibility, we were able to shoot
27 opens, closes, and promos in a day and a half. "Everyone
agreed that working with Rob Reiner was far from misery.
And his 'Essential' picks are certainly the sure thing
when it comes to some of the best Hollywood has produced.
